March is Music in Our Schools month. It is dedicated to recognizing the importance of music in schools and educating people about and celebrating it. LJMS has a few music electives: choir, orchestra, band, and music participation lab. Why don’t we take some time to talk about them? Specifically, choir and music participation lab.
Choir
The choir is where you sing for schools and people, songs ranging from depressing and dark to poppy and bright! The choir teacher is Katie Ballou, a first-year teacher. Currently, there are three groups of choirs: the tenors and bass choir, the sopranos and alto choir, and the advanced sopranos and alto choir. Choir students do a few concerts, like the spring and winter concerts, so if you like to sing for people and build more of your skills, this sounds perfect for you!
Music Participation Lab
Music Participation Lab is where you learn to play instruments like the piano and guitar! The teacher is Ms. Ballou, who also teaches the choir classes! Students in this class are not required to perform, so it is great for people who are not comfortable with performing but still want to learn how to play an instrument.
Why is this month so important? We celebrate music in schools during March because of its importance. Music is a universal language that everyone can understand and connect to. No matter your background, you can understand music and its meaning.
