As you may have heard, our incredible cast and crew of Matilda’s upcoming musical have been working hard to complete the show. They did a wonderful job performing on May 16th, 17th, and 18th! But learning anything about the play can be difficult. But don’t worry; the Jackson Journal has your back. We’ve compiled a list of everything you need to know about Luther Jackson’s Matilda!
Everything You Need to Know
- The show occurred on May 16th, 17th, and the 18th.
- Every year, the students of LJMS host a fall play and spring musical, in which anyone is welcome to participate either as an actor or as part of the set design and crew.
- There are many benefits to both participating in a musical or play and seeing it. Dr. Reid herself came and watched the show. Here’s what she said: “I am always impressed by the talents of our students as actors, musicians, stage design and crew, and visual artists. Participating in theater boosts middle school students’ confidence, fosters creativity, improves communication skills, enhances teamwork, and provides a fun, engaging way to develop empathy and emotional intelligence. Go Tigers and Falcons! A big thank you to all who make this important work possible. It matters!!”
- Some of the benefits of participating in the next musical or play are developing friendships made during the performances, gaining experience, and much more.
- Watching the musical was also a fantastic experience! The students at LJMS worked hard to perform it for you, and this one especially was incredibly entertaining.
- If you want to know more about joining the theater experience and participating in something like Matilda in the future, you can talk to Ms. Stacey.
What was Matilda?
Matilda Jr. was an hour-long musical about a 5-year-old girl with unique abilities. She can control things with her mind! She is also brilliant for her age, but with her abusive parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood, it is difficult for her to nurture these abilities. However, when Matilda starts school, her teacher, Ms. Honey, wants to help her, but the evil principal, Miss Trunchbull, stands in the way. What will happen to Matilda? Watch the musical to find out!
What is joining the LJMS Theater Experience like, and how can I do it?

I myself have made many friends while participating in the musical and have learned so much about what it is like to act and sing! Not only is it a great way to make friends, but it’s also a blast! You can audition for a role to join the next fall play or spring musical. If you’re still debating whether to join the theater arts program or participate in the next play or musical, you can talk to Ms. Stacey- Luther Jackson’s theater teacher- for more information!
