What have you been seeing on YouTube and TikTok? It’s our usual feed, whatever that is. But have you ever gotten a random video show up out of nowhere that includes some animated character? Maybe you thought nothing of it, but what if you saw more? These characters are probably from indie animations, which have grown even more popular recently. Indie animations are usually small ones shown on YouTube, but in 2024, these animations have been getting much more popular. These episodes have been getting a ton of attention; some are even making the whole series with more episodes. Some examples of this are:
- Hazbin Hotel, which started as a pilot on YouTube but now has its show on Amazon Prime,
- Helluva Boss, which now has two seasons and multiple episodes on YouTube,
- Ramshackle, which, since its full pilot episode on YouTube two weeks ago, now has almost 4 million views,
- The Amazing Digital Circus, which now has more than 300 million views and is set for a new episode soon,
- And many other videos and series!
The popularity of indie animations has reached a point where they can compete with TV shows on Netflix and Hulu! What’s fueling this surge? Some attribute it to the intriguing and unique storylines and plots, as evidenced by The Amazing Digital Circus and Murder Drones. Others believe it’s the diverse and unique characters, as seen in Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss. And then there are those who are simply drawn to their cool and entertaining nature, like Ramshackle and Lackadaisy.
