If you like to cheer and show school spirit, an interest meeting to be a cheerleader at FCHS piques your interest. On Monday, an interest meeting will be held after school where you will learn about cheerleading at Falls Church and consider joining next year. We interviewed a 9th grader, Jazlyn Ramirez, a current cheerleader at Falls Church, who gave us some answers to a few questions. We also got a chance to talk to the cheer coach, Ms. Melendez. So here are a few pieces of advice for 8th and even 7th graders who want to be cheerleaders in high school!
How can I register to become a Cheerleader next year?
There are a lot of steps to register to be a cheerleader, but Ms. Melendez will help students during the process!
Will this help my education?
Yes! An excellent aspect of cheer is that if you plan on attending college after high school, cheerleading can provide you with scholarships!
Are there any requirements to be a cheerleader?
Currently, FCHS has no requirements to be qualified as a cheerleader. You can have years of experience or none at all!
When and where are practices?
Practices for cheer are after school at Falls Church!
Are there any traits that will help me as a cheerleader?
A good trait to have as a part of cheer is confidence; you will be cheering in front of many people, so always be confident in yourself! Kindness is great, too, since you’ll be working with others who may need more help than you do!
Are there any skills that will help me as a cheerleader?
Flexibility is always great as a cheerleader since you will be doing some choreography, which may require stretching out!
Should I buy anything for cheer?
The only product you’ll have to buy is cheer shoes since the school should provide your outfit!
Is there anything I can expect next year?
You should expect a few challenges and learn some new skills, but remember to have a good mindset!
Any other advice?
Be confident! You are going learn things, and you are going to do great at cheer! If you don’t believe in yourself and think you’ll do poorly, you won’t get anywhere. Be confident in yourself and believe in your abilities!
What if I have other questions?
Remember, there will be an interest meeting after school where you can ask questions in person! Make sure to sign up for it on Friday using both the LJMS ASP Sign-up Forms (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe2DT9RaEfFRRJ3vgci5pvNObBWGv_oyntask5k90IoS-cJkw/viewform), and the after-school attendance in the cafeteria during Super Snacks (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfjwPdDOFiHqcc4xIgy_x09H1zek_e7tBKXOfflf_-hTfL16Q/viewform). Remember that this event will take place during both A and B sessions, and will take place on Monday, February 26th.
See you all there!
