Why Does Fast Food Taste So Good?

While you can make all the foods fast food places make, why is it that theirs is always so much better?

You’ve had to have had fast food at least once in your life, maybe a Big Mac from McDonalds, some chicken nuggets from Chick-fil-a, or maybe just a Frosty and fries from Wendy’s! Either way, it’s almost a guarantee you’ve had some kind of fast food, but have you ever wondered why it tastes better then the stuff at home? There’s actually a lot of things going on behind the scenes of the fast food industry and how they make their food taste better than normal, and we’re going to see a few of them.

  • Syrup

If you get a soda from the fast food stores soft drink dispenser, you might notice how sweet it tastes compared to canned drinks. This is because the soda has more syrup than normal soda when produced. Sprite is a perfect example of this; the Sprite you get from McDonalds tastes better than the real stuff because of the extra syrup added.

  • Additives

Fast food places add flavor enhancers, which as the name states, enhances the flavor of the food. These additives like monosodium glutamate(MSG) add more flavor and make the food taste better.

  • Processing

The food you get at your favorite fast food shop is probably more processed than you think. Most fast food is insanely processed, but why exactly are they processed a lot? The processing makes the flavors, like savory or sweet, appeal to your tastebuds, making it taste a lot better!

  • Dopamine

Not all of the reasons on this list correspond directly to the food, and sometimes it has to do with other aspects, like your brain. When you eat fast food and other junk food, your brain releases a neurotransmitter called dopamine. Dopamine is responsible for the happiness and joy you feel when you do things you love like shopping or playing games! That means when you eat fast food, your brain releases dopamine and you feel happier.

  • Convenience

Since fast food is, well, fast, it also makes you happier. Think about it; would you rather have to go home, cook for half an hour at least, eat and then clean, or go across the street and get a quick meal which will take you fifteen minutes to get? Fast food is really convenient since all you need to do is put in an order and wait!
