Summer break is one of the most exciting parts of the year. It’s something you look forward to again as soon as it ends. But, with summer break approaching so quickly, many people don’t know what to do since they have no plans. That being said, here are seven fun things you can do over summer break this year.
1. Reading
Reading can be a time-consuming hobby, so if you’re worried about being bored this summer, it won’t happen if you always have a book in hand. You can find remarkable book recommendations on BookTok, or you could spend some time browsing at your local library for the perfect book. Some of my personal recommendations are “One Killer Problem” by Justine Pucella Williams and “Out of My Mind” by Sharon M. Draper.
2. Spend some time outside
Whether this means playing on the grass with your siblings, practicing your favorite sport, having an outdoor picnic with your family, or even stargazing at night, spending time outside in the summer is not only fun, but benefits your health as well. After all, the weather is amazing in the summer, so why not take advantage of it by going outside?
3. Organize your house
This sounds like an extremely boring, strenuous task, but trust me- it’ll be worth it when you realize that the bracelet you lost is actually in the corner of your closet, or when the pile of random clutter in your drawer finally gets cleared out.
4. Earn some money
If you want to make a little extra spending money, you could take a small job, such as walking your neighbor’s dog, mowing their lawn, or babysitting. Since a lot of your neighbors will be out and about during summer break, they might need someone to look after their pet or their child. If you’re allowed to, you could even set up a lemonade stand or something similar to that. This is a great way to make quick money while bonding with your neighbors at the same time.
5. Swimming
Swimming, whether it’s indoors or outdoors, is a super fun way to get some exercise during your long break. Pools are one of the easiest ways to hang out with your friends: they’re free and they’re available everywhere. In my opinion, swimming for a few hours while comparing tricks with your friends, then grabbing an ice cream on your way out, is one of the best things you can do in the sweltering heat of summer.
6. Learn a new skill
If you’re staying home this summer and are desperately searching for the perfect way to spend all of your free time without wasting it, I have the perfect idea for you. One of the most productive things you can do during summer break is learning a new skill, whether that’s learning a new instrument, how to juggle, or a new language. To make things funner, you can even do this with a friend!
7. Test out a new recipe
Cooking is one of the most exciting experiments out there, and there is no better time to try it than summer break. You can test out a new cookie recipe, make some popsicles, or cook an entire meal for your family if you have the time.
After reading this article, hopefully you’ll have some ideas for what to do this summer if you’re planning to stay home. All of these activities are super easy to do, and enjoy your break!
