Continuing from “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (Part 1)”, this article will talk more about Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi. As the last movie of the Originial Trilogy, it finishes up the trilogy, concluding the story of a farm boy, princess, and a smuggler.
Music
Return of the Jedi might not be known for famous Star Wars compositions, but there are a couple that are well-known to the world (or the galaxy, should I say?) Here are some of them (along with my favorites as well):
- Han Solo Returns (at the Court of Jabba the Hutt)
- The Emperor Arrives
- The Death of Yoda
- The Battle of Endor (I, II, & III)
- Parade of the Ewoks
- Luke and Leia
- The Emperor’s Throne Room
- Darth Vader’s Death
- Funeral Pyre For A Jedi
- Victory Celebration
Quotes
There are a lot of famous quotes from Return of the Jedi. From Luke Skywalker to Darth Vader and Sheev Palpatine to Leia Organa, there are a wide variety. Here are some of the famous quotes:
- “The Emperor is not as forgiving as I am.” – Darth Vader
- “Someone who loves you.” – Leia Organa
In Jabba’s Palace, Leia Organa finally unfreezes Han, the latter not recognizing the woman. “Who are you?” “Someone who loves you.” - “Threepio, you tell that slimy piece of worm-ridden filth, he’ll get no such pleasure from us!” – Han Solo
- “Strong am I with the Force, but not that strong.” – Yoda
- “What I told you was true, from a certain point of view.” – Obi-Wan (Ben) Kenobi
- “There is still good in him.” – Luke Skywalker
- “Keep your distance, though, Chewie. But don’t look like you’re trying to keep your distance… I don’t know – fly casual.” – Han Solo
- “It’s against my programming to impersonate a deity.” – C3PO
- “I know, somehow. I’ve always known.” – Leia Organa
- “Then my father is truly dead.” – Luke Skywalker
Luke unarms himself in front of the Emperor, before saying that he is a Jedi, like his father before him. This one decision sums up the character Luke Skywalker from the entire original trilogy. - “They’ll have that shield down on time…or this’ll be the shortest offensive of all time.” – Lando Calrissian
- “It’s a trap!” – Admiral Ackbar
- “You underestimate the power of the Dark Side. If you will not fight, then you will meet your destiny.” – Darth Vader
- “I’ll never turn to the Dark Side. You’ve failed, your highness. I am a Jedi, like my father before me.” – Luke Skywalker
- “Now, young Skywalker…you will die.” – Emperor Palpatine
- “Tell your sister, you were right.” – Anakin Skywalker
Interesting Facts
Star Wars: Return of the Jedi has plenty of interesting facts to delve into for those Star Wars fans out there.
Here’s are a couple of them:

- Return of the Jedi was supposed to be called “Revenge of the Jedi“, but George Lucas decided to change it at the last moment, saying “true Jedi should never seek revenge”. But, posters had already been bought by fans with the title “Revenge of the Jedi“.
-
This is a clappercard, with the fake name “Blue Harvest”, instead of “Return of the Jedi” during filming. While filming Return of the Jedi, Lucasfilm had to make up a code name for the movie, coming up with Blue Harvest, a horror movie, instead of the last Star Wars movie in the trilogy.
- Some locations where Return of the Jedi was filmed were the redwood forests in California and the sandy deserts in Arizona. Sites include Death Valley, Twenty Mule Team Canyon, Elstree Studios, Redwood National Park, and the border near California and Arizona (Desert near Yuma).
Then and now scene of the speeder bike chase in Redwood National Park. - Han Solo was supposed to die in Return of the Jedi. Harrison Ford (the actor of Han Solo) and Lawrence Kasdan (co-writer of Return of the Jedi along with George Lucas) thought that someone in the trio should be killed off. George Lucas argued against them, and the idea was soon discarded.
- Jabba the Hutt needed many people to operate the intergalactic puppet. One person moved the tail and two worked together on the arms, head, voice, and tongue. Two people were radio operators, who worked on the eyes/eyelids, while another made the movements of the slug (body and mouth).
Most people thought that this would be the end of Star Wars. But, it wasn’t another 16 years until Lucasfilm published the first movie of a new trilogy: The Prequel Trilogy (The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith). With the main character being Anakin Skywalker (before he turned into Darth Vader), Star Wars was reborn once more. After the Prequel Trilogy was finished, Lucasfilm produced the Sequel Trilogy (The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, Rise of Skywalker). Books, comics, videos, LEGOs, toys, and more were issued, and the galaxy of Star Wars is still going strong, all because of a story about a farm boy, a princess, and a smuggler.
