How it all started
Crayola started in 1885 when two men, Elias Neman, and Alfred B. Cray, wanted to make a safer crayon. Before Crayola, crayons were made with dangerous materials. They worked with a scientist to create crayons that were non-toxic. In 1903, they released the first Crayola crayons, which had only eight colors.
Crayola takes off
In the 1950s and 60s, Crayola became popular. Kids all over loved using Crayola crayons, and the brand expanded to include markers, colored pencils, and even sidewalk chalk. In 1984, Crayola opened the Crayon Factory in Pennsylvania, where people could see how crayons were made.
Crayola today
Today, Crayola makes over 120 different crayon colors, plus many other art supplies. They even have apps for coloring on phones and tablets! Crayola is also working on being more eco-friendly by recycling old crayons and using materials that are better for the environment.
Conclusion
Crayola has come a long way since its first eight crayons. Whether you’re coloring with a box of crayons or on an app, Crayola sparks creativity all around the world!
