So, I am guessing that your parents or teachers have commented on your poor grades and might have said, “Just study harder.” But, that is not all. My tips are to do your homework, ask questions, create a routine to study daily or how many days a week you would like to study. The reason why I would do these tips is because most IVY league students following these tips are able to retain information and graduate from their college with flying colors. Tips like these can improve your grades, but it takes time and effort; you can’t just follow the routine for one week and expect your grades to get better instantly, like a C to an A. However, it could take you from a C to a B.
- Do your homework! Doing your homework makes you practice your knowledge on the topic you are learning. Even though it seems quite obvious, most high school students do not do their homework and as a result, their grades go down. By not doing your homework, you will not know what you do not know which can affect you when you take a test. However, when you do your homework, you will find out what you don’t know. This means you can learn it and figure out the concept.
- Ask questions! By asking questions, you are learning about the knowledge you don’t know and you will get the help you need. If you are too shy to ask the question, then write an email to your teacher, talk to them in private, watch a video, or just do something to learn about your missing knowledge. For example, suppose there are two students, Mike and Jill, who both don’t understand the same concept. Mike talks to Jill for help, but after realizing Jill also doesn’t understand the concept, Mike emails his teacher about it (and the teacher is more than happy to respond). By doing this, Mike finally understands the concept and finishes his homework. However, since Jill is shy, she doesn’t do her homework and doesn’t understand the concept, which poorly affects her grade. This explains that it is important to ask questions, because then, you will 100% do better on tests and homework.
- Create a study schedule. Staying on top of all your activities like extracurricular activities can be really challenging, as you might not have any time to do your homework and study. That is where a study schedule comes into place, to make a study schedule; spend 10 minutes evaluating your week and your daily routine. Try and squeeze in time to study, even though you may be busy with other kinds of stuff in your daily life. For example, if you have a 1.5 hour period between activities, study then. What if you do not have any time? Then you might have to sacrifice one of your activities, like dropping a sport or an after-school club that you do. It will be hard, but it will be worth it to end the school year with a 4.0 GPA.
