Career
Dori Sakurada was born on December 7, 1991 in Tokyo, Japan. When he was just 11 years old walking home with his mother, he was scouted and later joined his current company, Amuse. He took acting, dancing, and singing lessons while still attending middle school and high school. In 2005 he was chosen to play the lead role of Ryoma Echizen. which he is mostly known for in a musical modified from the well liked anime The Prince Of Tennis, Tenimyu, as part of the third generation Seigaku. As at the age of 14, he was the youngest member to be on the cast. In a Q&A session he said that he was a fan of anime/manga series, Dori was inspired by Konomi’s work, so he began playing tennis as a hobby alongside swimming, dancing, and other sports. During his run in TeniMyu, he appeared in the best actor series with his own solo as well as group appearances as Ryoma Echizen.
After his two year run as Echizen Ryoma, he got his huge break in 2008 when he took the role as Kotaro Nogami in Saraba Kamen Rider Den-O: Final Countdown, the third film adaptation of the popular Kemen Rider series. It was a success, and it ranked second on its opening week and earned a total of 720 million yen which is 4,813,815.65 USD.
In 2013, he went on hiatus to study in London, England. In 2019, he was interviewed, he revealed that the choice came from the want to explore other career options, as he was slowly losing the passion and motivation, the part of being an actor was not his choice in the first place. However, just 6 months later he returned to Japan. He admitted that his time away instantly changed his attitude towards work, renewed his hunger to succeed in the entertainment industry and that this time it was his choice to be an actor. Since then, he has appeared in films such as Orange (2015) and Let Me Eat Your Pancreas (2017), and in TV shows such as Scum’s Wish (2017), Coffee & Vanilla (2019) and my favorite, Alice In Borderland (2020).
Other than acting, he writes and makes his own music releasing his first EP, Sakurda da Festsa BEST, in 2019. He performs live in his yearly fan event, Sakura da Festa, the first one held in 2016. In 2020, he made his official fan club, the Sakura da Space Society. In 2022, he completed his first Zepp tour. called Dori Sakurda ZEPP TOUR 2022: Anniversary to the next level, he performed in Tokyo, Yokohama, Osaka and Nagoya.
Personal Life
Named after Sakurada-dori avenue in Tokyo, Dori has an older sister, an older brother, and a younger sister. He went to Megure Nihon University High School, where he often played tennis and basketball. In 2002, which was the same year he was scouted, he got a Dachshund which he named Fanta. After his pet’s death in 2019, he centered his fan club website theme and design around Fanta, along with his interest in outer space.
His favorite musician is the Japanese rock band, UVERworld. After meeting the band’s lead vocalist TAKUYA in one of his singing lessons, Dori became a fan, instantly buying all of their CDs on his way home. Since then, they’ve become close friends, with Dori often being seen wearing gold ring that TAKUYA himself had given him for his 18th birthday, and UVERworld giving the theme song for Dori’s movie, Marching: Ashita e in 2014.
Dori is also a close friend of Kento Yamazaki who also played Ryohei Arisu in Alice In Borderland. The two of them met on the set of Baseball Brainiacs in 2014, and have worked in multiple movies and shows since then. In the variety program The World’s Astonishing News! Kento said that he, Dori and both their mothers celebrated New Year’s Day in 2020 by going on a trip to Hakone, Japan. He is also close friends with former Amuse artists Ryunsuke Kamiki and Takeru Satoh.
