I recently started playing a game called The Battle of Polytopia. I’m going to give a quick review, and then going to guide you through some of the starting tribes and tactics.
Review
To start off, Polytopia is a great game to play with friends. If you want to play by yourself, it has bots for all levels, from Easy to Crazy. I prefer to play with my friends. The actual game is awe-inspiring, with really cool bot mechanics, different ways to play, and different tribes to start off with. I enjoyed the ‘Domination’ game mode, as you try to defeat the other tribes within certain parameters.
Guide
Imperius
Imperius is a perfect starting tribe. Any village you have in your area has the materials to at least gain 1 village level (This probably doesn’t make sense right now, but if you start playing, you’ll know what I’m talking about). They start off with the Organization Tech, the tech that enables you to harvest fruit.
Tactics For Imperius
One of the main tactics when playing with many people is to upgrade your city to level 2, and choose your reward to be Explorer, which shows you some of the other tribes. The discovery of these tribes gives you stars (the resource in Polytopia), which can enable you to upgrade your city faster or spawn units to find more cities.
Xin-xi
Xin-xi is a little harder to play, but if used correctly, it can be a powerful tribe. In Polytopia, you can’t immediately see everything. There is a sort of fog around places you haven’t been yet. Xin-xi starts off with the Climbing Tech, which enables you to be able to traverse onto mountains. When a unit is on a mountain, the unit has double vision, enabling it to see 2 squares into the fog.
Xin-xi Tactics
Xin-xi tactics include rushing, which entails sending warriors to climb on mountains and find villages. Standing on a mountain allows you to see farther and get more villages. More villages give more stars, which can help you upgrade your cities. The recommended tech to go for is Philosophy, which gives you a 33% decrease in the amount of stars tech costs. In order to get to Philosophy, you have to purchase Meditation, which can give you a monument to gain upgrades.
