I’m sure you’ve all seen people microwaving popcorn at every lunch, whether you have A, B, C, or D lunch. But do you know that microwave popcorn is now prohibited at LJMS? In this article, you will learn why the ban was put into place by our teachers and staff.
A few days ago, announcements were made at lunch that microwave popcorn could no longer be brought to school? But why? What harm could a bag of popcorn possibly cause to the school? Well, for starters, it can be dangerous for students to make unsupervised. The cafeteria staff are busy and do not have time to watch every single student while they microwave their popcorn. They have other jobs, like making announcements, and controlling the noise level of the students who are eating so that people in the classroom are not disturbed from their learning.
A series of incidents with microwave popcorn have occurred at LJMS. Explosions have happened in the microwave because some students don’t know how to properly make popcorn in it. Explosions alone are very dangerous, and they can lead to more serious scenarios such as fires. As a result, microwave popcorn has been banned throughout the entire school (due to safety reasons).
Although it may seem unfair, the new rule was put into place for a reason. If any student decides to disobey the new policy, the whole school could face consequences such as having the microwaves taken away entirely. Teachers have made announcements saying that microwave privileges are on the verge of being suspended, and we don’t want that to happen because it result in an automatic ban in all microwave foods, such as cup noodles or microwavable rice.
I have some good news for you: Popcorn itself is still allowed at school. As long as it’s pre-popped before you go to school and doesn’t need the school microwave to make, you can still bring popcorn to school! You can still eat it at lunch and share it with your friends. Overall, the staff are only concerned for the greater good of the students and their safety, and you should respect the school’s new rules.
