Every year, Luther Jackson Middle School has a play and a musical, one in spring and one in fall. A play is a story acted out on stage, and a musical is similar, but with songs and more choreography than a typical play. This fall, Ms. Stacey is hosting a play called Aesop Live! In less than a week, our fall play will open. These are some things you should know before you see the show.
- What dates are the shows?
We are performing Aesop Live four times: November 21st at 7 PM, November 22nd at 7 PM, and November 23rd at 2 and 7 PM. Each show will run for approximately 80 minutes, but may be slightly longer or shorter.
- What is Aesop Live about?
Aesop Live! is a play containing many of Aesop’s fables. Aesop was a former slave (who lived from 620 to 560 BC) who loved to create fables. Aesop Live’s selections range from popular fables such as The Boy Who Cried Wolf and The Tortoise and The Hare, to lesser-known fables like The She-Goats and Their Beards, The Astrologist, and The Two Pots.
- How do I get tickets for Aesop Live?
Tickets are available on the Luther Jackson website to purchase for only $5! Tickets can also be bought at the door before opening for 6 dollars. The show itself will be held in the LJMS auditorium. Actors who are participating in the play do not need to purchase tickets for themselves.
- How can I be part of one of Ms. Stacey’s shows?
If you missed the opportunity to be in Aesop Live, don’t worry! There will be a musical (the exact show is to be determined) in spring that anyone can audition for. All you need to do is attend an interest meeting, prepare for your auditions, and show up! You don’t need to take theater as an elective or have any prior acting, singing, or dancing experience to audition.
The entire cast worked very hard for opening night. You should come see one of the performances of Aesop Live! You might see some of your friends standing on that very stage. Or you might see somebody you know lighting up the stage or working the sounds. This show will be super exciting too see, and I can’t wait to see you there!
