On August 4th, 2023, Sabrina Carpenter released Feather, a hit song that had been in the deluxe version of her latest album at the time, Emails I Can’t Send, as a single. A little over two months later, on Halloween, she released the music video for her song. Although the song was perceived well by fans, the music video, however, was a different story.
The music video begins quite calmly, with Sabrina strolling down a street with headphones on. On her way to her destination, several people try to chase her, but she instead ignores them. After walking for a while, Sabrina crossed a street, singing “Finally cut you off” after her followers gave up on her. After that, she goes to a gym to exercise, killing everyone else inside who disturbed her. Then, she enters a building and goes into an elevator. This is where the chaos begins.
Another man, who is wearing a suit and tie, is in the elevator with Sabrina. He seems normal at first, however, soon tries to sneak a picture of her. Sabrina’s approach to dealing with that was… to say the least, interesting. When the elevator reaches her floor, she grabs the man’s tie, exits the elevator, and lets the door close. The man is soon choked by the rising elevator, and Sabrina’s outfit is stained with his blood, although the reason for that is unknown, for the man was inside and she was outside.
This is the part that was controversial. The church scene. Sabrina Carpenter filmed this scene in the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in New York. Fans criticized her for filming “inappropriate” content in a church. Newspaper sources claim that the church’s priest was stripped of his duties when he allowed Carpenter to film the scene in his church.
In my opinion, the church scene itself wasn’t inappropriate. But who knows? Everyone seems to have a unique opinion these days. Sabrina responded calmly to the hate, stating that she had gotten prior permission to use the Catholic church as filming grounds. But what do you think? Did her music video deserve the hate, or no?
