As many of you guys have heard, there is a solar eclipse happening today, but what really is a solar eclipse? Let’s find out with a broken down explanation on how this amazing solar event came to be and why everybody gets so excited over it’s occurrence.
A solar eclipse is when the moon passes between the sun and the earth, creating a shadow over some parts of a certain part of the planet. As a result, the face of the sun is being blocked. If we examine the patterns and angles of how an eclipse happens, the only planet capable of having a solar eclipse in our solar system is actually our planet earth. This is because other planets have different conditions, like not having the perfect lineup, or the sun appearing too small or big, or even the amount and size of their moons.
Despite the moon covering the sun, because the rays are still exposed but not seen as you would see from the sun if it wasn’t covered by the moon, it can still burn your eyes, capable of blinding close to all of your sight and making weird illusions. Some time in the 20th century, eclipse glasses made for protecting you from the bright, blinding rays were invented built to stop damage to your eyes from happening and let you see the eclipse in peace. The eclipse that is happening today is a total eclipse, which is so uncommon and only happens between a huge period of time.
