Optimus Gen 2 is the latest and improved robot in the Tesla’s Optimus project. The robot was revealed on December 13 of 2023 through a demo video. We have had updates from Tesla through videos of the robot doing things like squatting down and the robot walking. This robot has a white covering with the Tesla logo written on its chest. Although the price of the robot has not been confirmed, Elon Musk has said the price for the robot would most likely be less than $20,000.
This robot has many new features such as:
- Optimus Gen 2 has sensors on all finger making grabbing delicate things easier. We can see this through a video where we see the robot picks up an egg without crushing it
- Optimus Gen 2 moves better than the Optimus Gen 1 and has better balance
- The robot now has improved and better-looking feet and hands that have articulators, basically the robot’s joints, which make it have more functionality
Optimus Gen 2 is the latest and improved robot in the Optimus project with it being ten pounds lighter then Optimus Gen 1 and is able to move 30% faster than Optimus Gen 1 . The goal of the Optimus project is to create robots capable of doing tasks to replace human labor without being expensive. The company plans to use this robot to help the company manufacture their products and plans to release this robot after this. Elon Musk is hoping to be able to put the robot up for sale between 2025 and 2027, but Elon Musk’s predictions might be wrong, and the release date of this robot might be delayed. This robot is one of the many examples of how technology is improving rapidly and how it’s being used in many different ways.
