Scientists at the University of Chicago are now able to make a true molecular chain (rings of molecules linked like a real chain). Regular molecular chains are fixed covalent bonds. These true chains have different properties that would be useful in certain situations. Theoretically, the chain structure would absorb energy better, which would be useful for padding, insulating. or dampening. Not much is known about the molecule chains at the moment, but scientists are eager to experiment and find out.

These molecular chains could give you the benefits of polymers, functionality and tunability, which are extremely beneficial in the world of engineering. Being able to create this molecular structure is a big step in engineering because people could utilize the special properties of the molecule chains to make advancements in safety and efficiency within engineering.
