How Was Google Invented?

I’m sure you use Google for at least one thing in your life. For work, typing, research, or maybe when you’re bored. You’ve got to wonder, who made Google? When was it first invented?

Google was invented by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, who were computer scientists. The name “google” came from “googol,” which is the number 1 followed by one hundred zeroes. They started making Google in 1996 at Stanford University, where they first met in 1995. At first, they worked on a search engine called Backrub, which used a technology they created called PageRank. It sorted websites by their relevance, using factors like how often a search term appeared on a webpage. Only after this did they make Google. Now we use Google all the time.

This relates to engineering because technology and creativity was used to create google, and it also required a lot of devotion and planning. They integrated their technology, Pageblank into Google and combined ideas for Google, therefore improving upon it. The whole process used the Engineering Design Process.
