Aerogel: World’s Lightest Solid

Aerogel is a synthetic material designed in a lab. It is created by extracting the liquid from a gel through supercritical drying. The liquid is then replaced with a gas. Aerogel, as mentioned in the title, is the world’s lightest solid. It is very brittle and easily broken. It works as a great heat insulator, but it is a poor radiation insulator.

This relates to engineering because this material was engineered in a lab and created by people. Also, people will use this material in the future or even in the present to create other things.
